Vaccitech is a spin-off company from the University Oxfords Jenner Institute one of the oldest and most renowned Vaccine Research Centres in the world developing vaccine technology against Influenza and Prostate Cancer. Having secured £20 million of additional funding in January 2018 the company embarked on the expansion of their business investing capital in a series of new laboratories and offices at the Oxford Science Park. With support from Oxford Science Institute (OSI) and the additional funding, Vaccitech approached iab to help design and build their new facility. With a strong reference from Evox, a privately own company on the park, Vaccitech entrusted the business to iab. In keeping with the EVOX project which was finished early May 2018, iab worked closely with the client and OSI (sub Landlords) to sub divide 15,000 square feet of space into three individual business areas.
Within the 5,000 square foot space, allocated to Vaccitech, iab and the client designed, constructed and commissioned a reasonable sized open plan office area, developed two meeting rooms, a large open plan general laboratory, microbiology lab, two tissue culture laboratories with entrance lobby, an equipment room to house a nitrogen generator, various fridge and freezer and a wash up room to accommodate an autoclave, laboratory glass washer, 2×1 CO2 gas cylinder manifold and main distribution board.
The building was designed to house offices/laboratories. The building was a new build and the project, therefore, inherited new HVAC equipment. An import part of the project was to re-engineer the HVAC plant throughout the 15,000 square to service the three equal spaces developed for OSI.
From the initial meeting to the completion of the project was designed, constructed and completed in under 20 weeks.
